What a mess! Look at all this stuff. I have lights and decorations and wrapping paper and ribbon. I have “snow” and candy canes and pie and turkey. I have pine needles everywhere and sticky spots on the furniture. I have cake in the rug and baby handprints on the wall. The kitchen is chaos, the bedrooms look like an army slept in them, the living room furniture is all out of place and the dining room is a total disaster.
Somehow, no matter how hard I try, the holidays just keep getting away from me. I plan and plan. Then the kids come with the little ones, the aunts and uncles arrive with presents for the family. Every relative stops in to say hello with more food and gifts. Somehow the children’s toys get strewn around and hidden under the wrappings, so they can’t find them and cry and the babies scream because there’s so much noise and excitement. There are shouts of surprise and pleasure, electronic beeps and whistles, singing dolls and jumping rabbits. Inevitably, one box gets lost, creating panic ‘til it’s found under the sofa (how?) and delivered to the right recipient.
When everyone leaves the house looks as if a tornado blew through. I don’t think I’ll ever get it cleaned up!
Wasn’t it wonderful?
