Noteworthy Neighbors: Stan and Elaine Goff

It is the "giving" season, and Stan and Elaine Goff, Villa residents, have been as generous in giving of themselves as any other folks at University Village – perhaps more than many.

Asked about his career, Stan names three:  first as a CPA; second as COO and Executive VP of RB Furniture, a New York Stock Exchange company; and third as managing partner of Josam, an investment company in diversified real estate entities.  He has also given a lifetime of service to his communities, currently through SCORE, a non-profit organization funded by the Small Business Administration, through which Stan has donated business counseling to some one hundred start-up businesses over the past couple of years.  He has been a mentor "big brother" to MBA students at UCLA, and has been involved with Variety Clubs, a show business charity which funds children's causes in the entertainment world.  He is a Life Trustee of the San Diego Youth Symphony, and was chairman of the furniture division of the LA United Jewish Fund.

Commenting that she has always enjoyed good health, Elaine expresses her gratitude by "giving back."  Her current weekly "sing-a-longs" at the UV Health Center are an outgrowth of her playing both classical and non-classical piano music since she was eight years old.  A favorite performance period was when she joined three other pianists, playing "eight hands, two pianos." Elaine was also a competitive golfer, having played the circuit at private country clubs – with a 10 handicap for many years, highlighted during her best period by an 8!   Additionally, Elaine has participated actively in LA Philharmonic and San Diego Symphony support organizations, and she is now on the Board, raising funds for the children's program of the local New West Symphony.  And she has been elected from a section of the Villas to the Building Representatives Committee for 2009.

Stan and Elaine have been married 62 years, having met at UCLA where Stan was a "hasher" in Elaine's sorority house.  They have always lived in southern California, first in the San Fernando Valley, then West Los Angeles for 26 years.  Their two daughters live in Long Beach and Northridge, and they have six grandchildren, ages 12 to 27.  The Goffs were living in San Diego when one of their daughters "discovered" University Village, bringing them here to interact happily and generously with their UV neighbors.  How fortunate for University Village!
