Contemporary Philosophy

- by Holly Lamb -

After checking the Activities Desk roster of open classes at CLU, and receiving an OK from the professor, I then audited a fall semester class in contemporary philosophy.  It brought back memories of my own college course 59 years ago in the history of philosophy.

The class was a very small senior seminar (6 students) with a fascinating professor.  What fun it was to read, study questions proffered by the professor, enjoy other students’ presentations and never have to take any tests or write any papers!  The very best of college without the most difficult parts!  Studying from early 19th and 20th century philosophers, I am finding my knowledge from this class presently is resonating in my Literary Club discussion group with Nick Minick, in the character of Ivan Karamazov of The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoevsky, who mirrors the philosophical trends sweeping Europe of that period.
