Education Experience at California Lutheran University

Auditing classes at CLU is one of the educational privileges of living at UV. Most classes meet two or three times a week for a semester. Auditors participate as "students," but are not required to take tests and do not receive credit. Of the several residents who have audited CLU classes, three share their experiences and enthusiasm.

Holly Lamb and Art Posner audited Contemporary Philosophy. Six students (3 from CLU and 3 auditors) studied with the head of the department, with stimulating discussion but no exams or term papers. Holly called it "fabulous...it keeps your mind going and is well worth the commitment."

Gene Smith  describes experiences in Acting in Front of the Camera, individually or in small groups, for close and long shots, exercises and improvisation. Performances were filmed, played back and critiqued by classmates and the professor, who is the department head. Gene found it "very pleasant" and will return to CLU in September.

Jo Walters, an experienced artist, took Studio Art primarily for the opportunity to work with live models with space to paint. She was warmly welcomed and enjoyed the university atmosphere where she could paint with the students and be a positive influence among them. She calls it "a big plus to continue things that interest us in our lives."
