Has anyone living at University Village not used a Mastercard? Did you know that a fellow resident was on the team that developed that icon of the credit industry? Bill Michael, then working for the United Bank of California, helped represent the bank as UCB, Bank of California, Crocker and Wells Fargo teamed together in 1968 to offer an alternative to Bank of America’s then brand new, innovative VISA credit card.

Celebrating their 60th wedding anniversaries at a dinner party held recently in the Wine Room at University Village were Leo and Betty Levy and their friends, who were also married in 1949.
Leo met Matt Berenda (Patricia) at Manuel Arts High School in Los Angeles, and after graduating in 1946 Leo and Matt enlisted in the army. After being discharged from the army they attended the same college, and played football. There they met Marvin Zepeda (Ruth).

You might be surprised at all the varieties of the game of Bridge that can be found on our campus! This article began with a phone call from Gardenview resident Ava Jensen about her experience organizing a Bridge group at a large apartment complex in Van Nuys many years ago. New players learned Bridge in her apartment, and then joined other players. They met together for some twelve years, becoming the family that most of them did not have. Ava, wanting to keep her mind alert, still plays once or twice a week, here in our Clubhouse.
