Featuring "Four Senior Sisters," the UVTO Participants
When UVTO friend Judy Hillis offered Sally Allen four tickets to the taping of the game show "The Price is Right," Sally jumped at the opportunity. She gathered JoAnne Pinner, Ida O'Donoghue and Dorothy Routsala, and the "Senior Sisters" headed for the studio. While waiting to enter, visitors produced ID and were interviewed as potential participants. Sally responded to the questions with enthusiasm. But as the chosen participants were called, she almost failed to respond to her legal, former name, the one on her ID, Rita Turner!
Once on stage, adrenaline rushed and Sally felt no fear. Her choices were correct - she knows the value of merchandise – and she became the winner of a pool table, a treadmill with TV and a sit-down Nascar virtual racing game. Where would she put the things?
Reality set in when Sally learned that state and federal taxes of nearly $5,000 had to be paid. She hoped her children, or others, might want the prizes and be willing to cover the taxes – but her ultimate decision left her winnings with the game show folks (as happens fifty percent of the time, she comments). The thrill of winning still makes Sally's eyes shine, and she exults in the memory of one of the most exciting days in her life.
Come share the fun at the broadcast, December 22, 10:00 a.m., in Catalina Hall.
