Activities Committee

Activities CommitteeFun, games, enlightenment, entertainment. For participation and observation, these are the pleasures provided by the UVTO Activities Department. Did you know that the majority of on-campus programs and the excursions beyond the gates are the result of resident suggestions? With the broad range of interests among our people, the resources of southern California can be explored and made available to those who crave...well, the Committee Procedures define the task this way: "To recommend to the Activities Director a wide variety of social, creative, athletic and cultural activities for the residents of University Village."

Understanding that the Activities Director and her staff can't "do it alone," the residents of UVTO who form the twelve-to-fifteen member committee are divided into eight categories: Art, Special Events, University Relations, the Convenience Store, Excursions, Garden, Sports and At Large. The Art Guild offers a monthly show, usually of a current resident's artistic creations. University Relations primarily features opportunities with CLU and Pepperdine, but could be expanded to other institutions through personal contacts. Baseball and football events have been popular in the past - how about a day at the (horse) races at Santa Anita or Hollywood Park?

Oversight of the convenience store and the resident garden plots falls to this committee. One couple purchases much of what is offered in the store, scheduled volunteers do the staffing, and folks who need a quick carton of milk, loaf of bread, or an apple or banana, as well as a variety of shelf replenishments, are grateful customers. The garden plots satisfy itching green thumbs, with their assignment as available depending on sign ups by those who choose to continue playing in the dirt here in their newest home. At Large and Special Events cover a multitude of opportunities. Thanks, Activities Committee and Chair David Remar, for all you do.
