Retirement is supposed to make time for fun and games. Just look at the opportunities for fun in The Club Corner in Village View. In the Clubhouse you’ll see the games – plus cards, chips, dominoes, tiles and the smiles of happy players who would love to have you join them.
BINGO comes in two versions, gambling on the second Saturday and for prizes on the fourth Saturday. Gambling bingo is $5.00 for ten games (some invented by leader Marty Obbink) with winners of each game awarded 10% of the days contributions. Surprise awards please the winners of prize bingo. Leader Marty proclaims "The more the merrier!" so feel free to join in.
HAND and FOOT, also hosted by Marty, is played with a partner, using five decks of cards! Not as complicated as bridge, it is challenging, as foursomes gather on Tuesdays at 1:00.
Bill and Wini Nichols introduced
RUMMIKUB/RUMMY TILE some time ago, and four or five tables of players now draw tiles to make rummy-style runs and sets - it is relaxing yet challenging, just plain fun, and there is always room for more players on Wednesday evenings at 7:00.
And then there is
POKER. The high stakes players buy in for $20, playing various games, dealer’s choice, with a high and a low winner of each game. The poker table in the Balboa Room is usually filled when the game begins at 1:00pm on Tuesdays. At the same starting time, a smaller group plays a low stakes game, according to poker organizers Steve Hughes and Maxine Oishan.
Alice Sage describes
PAN as a game based on rummy, for eight players. Alice says it is a difficult game to learn. If you want to learn it she and Alyce Gietter are willing to teach you - give either a call.
EXPERIENCED MAH JONGG is also led by Alice Sage, with players gathering on Thursdays at 1:00pm for this classic Chinese game which uses lovely enamel tiles. A group of less experienced players enjoy
INTERMEDIATE MAH JONGG at 12:30 on Mondays. Instruction is on-going; for information call Lillian Levin.
The newest game opportunity is
SCRABBLE, which meets every Monday at about 1:30. Currently, there are three Scrabble sets and dictionaries, one with large print, according to Joan Dorfman, who hopes to see you soon - as do the leaders of all the games.
