Building Representatives

 - By John O’Donoghue, Convener -

Basic Information
There are 20 "Reps" and 20 "Alternates". There is one Rep for each of the three floors of the 4 "Views", one for each of the 3 Garden Terraces and 5 for the 72 Villas. A roster of current Reps is available to all residents in the library.

Meetings are on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 10:00 a.m. in the Laguna Room and are open to all residents.

Our Secretary, Marcia Fogel, does a great job of recording every item discussed during our meetings. Additionally, she provides us with a checklist so that every item is followed up until it is resolved.

Meetings are convened by the "Convener" (Vice Chair of the Resident Council) and they typically follow the same structure. The Convener gives opening comments followed by discussion of and approval of previous meeting minutes. Scott Polzin, Executive Director, comments on open items from previous meetings, new items, announcements and general information on UVTO that we should know. Next, we receive a report from Mark Anderson, Director of Plant Operations, on open items from previous meetings (detailed in meeting minutes) and new items. Each one of the 20 Reps then gives a report for their area including the surrounding halls, streets, landscaping and any other areas of UVTO. Last, the Convener offers Closing Comments.

Objectives
The main objective of the Building Reps is to provide up and down communications for both residents and UVTO Management. Through their Reps, residents have access to the Director of Plant Operations and the UVTO Executive Director. Residents also have access to the Resident Council through the Convener, who reports major items from the Building Rep meetings in the following Resident Council meeting. Building Reps serve as a contact for all residents in their immediate area for questions, information and problems they want addressed. They provide aid in improving residents' social activities, including the twice-a-year floor gatherings where UVTO provides hors d'oeuvres, soft drinks, etc. Building Reps assist in UVTO-wide activities such as elections, emergency evacuations, etc. Lastly, Building Reps contribute to making UVTO an even better place to live and to the happiness and contentment of all the residents of our home -UVTO.

New Projects
The Building Reps currently have two "projects" we want to address. One is to get clearer and more detailed information to all residents as to whom to contact when they have an emergency at night or on a weekend. The other is what we can do to be "greener" (and lower cost?) throughout UVTO. Your ideas or suggestions on these items are most welcome and will be considered.

We encourage all Building Reps to get to know each resident in their area, especially new residents. If you do not know your Rep, please check the roster in the Library, contact Marcia Fogel or John O'Donoghue.
