If You Have Questions, University Village
Has the Answers

First in a Series

If you're currently considering a continuing care retirement community (CCRC), you're in the midst of one of the most important decisions you'll ever make — how and where to spend your future.

Tap into a wealth of important information in this series addressing financial questions that may be on your mind. The answers just may give you valuable insight as you go forth in planning your retirement future.

To help with your decision-making, here are the answers to some of those most frequently asked financial questions about CCRC living.

What benefits are covered with an initial CCRC entrance payment?

Generally, a CCRC entrance payment is a one-time fee that is based on the size and location of the residence. It entitles the resident to lifetime residency, the availability of long-term nursing care and any additional care benefits the particular CCRC may choose to include. At University Village, this is an outstanding benefit as your initial entrance payment is largely repayable to you or your estate.

What services can I expect from my regular monthly payment?

The monthly service payment is a comprehensive charge that varies depending upon residence size and number of occupants (a second person generally pays a significantly lower second-person monthly fee). A portion helps cover community costs, such as upkeep of grounds and commons areas, and is usually allocated across all residences based on size. A variety of services, including interior and exterior maintenance, housekeeping, dining, utilities and transportation are also paid for in this way. In addition, all the lifestyle benefits of CCRC living — activities and events that promote engagement, wellness and growth, a nutrition-conscious cuisine and more — are funded through this monthly payment that also takes care of continuing care benefits, should long-term care services ever be needed.
