University Village Receives Final Approval

THOUSAND OAKS, CALIF. - University Village Thousand Oaks has received unanimous approval from the city planning commission. The planning commission vote represents final approval for the new continuing care retirement community, which will be located on the northwest corner of Campus Drive and Olsen Road near California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, Calif.

According to Richard D. Aschenbrenner, chief executive officer of Continuing Life Communities, owner/operator of the community, University Village will offer 370 independent residences for people aged 62 and older. Site work for the 60-acre development is scheduled to begin in mid 2004, with building construction slated to begin by the fourth quarter of 2004. Designed by the award-winning architectural firm of Van Tilburg Banvard & Soderbergh, AIA, of Santa Monica, Calif., University Village will feature a Spanish colonial design theme in keeping with the city's longstanding architectural heritage.

Aschenbrenner said that more than 150 reservations have been made by seniors for the new community, which received approval from the California Department of Social Services, Continuing Care Branch last summer. University Village will be a gate-guarded community offering numerous housing options, as well as a large package of services and amenities including fine dining. Also included are assisted living and skilled nursing, if ever needed, in a continuing care program licensed by the state's Department of Social Services.

University Village will have single-story, freestanding villas featuring two and three bedrooms, fully-equipped kitchens and attached garages. The community will also offer one-, two- and three-bedroom apartment homes overlooking a central courtyard adjacent to the clubhouse, as well as "Garden Terrace" apartment homes, two- and three-bedroom residences set amidst walking trails and abundant landscaping.

The University Village program includes the choice of one of three meals served daily. The community will also offer 24-hour security service, indoor/outdoor maintenance of residences, regular linen, maid and cleaning service, scheduled transportation to shopping, local medical offices and places of worship, all utilities (except telephone and cable TV), and a 24-hour emergency call system. University Village will also feature a variety of social, recreational and educational activities, as well as frequent outings to the numerous cultural offerings in the greater Los Angeles area.

Continuing Life Communities is an owner/operator of continuing care retirement communities in California, including the new, award-winning La Costa Glen community in Carlsbad.
