Traveler, 86, uses what she learns at CLU

Helen Pao has traveled across the world, but now, at age 86, she appreciates much more the art and architecture she sees when venturing abroad.
That’s because Pao is auditing art history classes at California Lutheran University through an arrangement the school has with University Village, the nearby retirement community where she lives in Thousand Oaks. Last year, she took an art history survey. This fall, she studied medieval art. Later this month, she’ll start the first part of the history survey course again.
“I was always interested in archaeology and art history, but I never had time to pursue it,” said Pao, who visited France twice last year with her daughter. “Now when I go traveling, I look at things differently.”
