Upon meeting Betty Seccombe, a resident of University Village Thousand Oaks, you might think she and husband Clint have seen it all. "You cannot imagine how it feels to drive down a street you've traveled all your life and, suddenly, you're looking up at your own face on a 14-foot billboard for your new retirement community," she says. "I stopped, got out of the car and stood there in the drizzling rain laughing."

"Our three-bedroom villa at University Village puts us right where we want to be," says Betty. "Near our friends, our doctors, our church, an incredible mountain view — we're closer to everything and everyone we love. I truly did shut the door and begin a whole new life — shedding worries of home maintenance, insecurities about the future and concerns about the legacy meant for our children. University Village took care of all that. It's the greatest gift we could have given our children. And the longer we're here, the more valuable our new lifestyle becomes."

New experiences abound for the Seccombes, who moved to University Village just two years ago. Betty still loves to garden but has found lots of ways to spend her time in place of cooking, since the dining is "so great" she doesn't have to anymore. Instead, she's creating art with prisma pencils, and staying busy in church and civic activities, including volunteer work for the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Betty also tends to her beautiful rose garden, perfectly placed outside her villa at University Village.

"When friends say they're not ready to move, that means they're waiting until they have to," says Betty. "And that's no way to spend your future. I've made this the best place I've lived.
